Encik Abbas Abu Amin asked the Minister for National Development what steps are being taken to clear the pockets of villages that are still scattered along Pasir Panjang Road and South Buona Vista Road in order to meet the target set by the Government to clear all squatterland by 1988.

The Minister of State for National Development (Dr Lee Boon Yang) (for the Minister for National Development): Mr Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am answering on behalf of my Minister.

The villages along Pasir Panjang Road and South Buona Vista Road are largely in private ownership. The landowners have been advised to clear the squatter colonies by December 1988, failing which Government may consider acquiring their lands.

The State land around Zehnder Road will be cleared by the Government by 1988.
