Mr Lew Syn Pau asked the Minister for Communications and Information if he will consider allowing taxis to carry advertisements on the exterior of the taxis, just like buses and other public vehicles.

Mr Lew Syn Pau (Tanglin): Sir, I would like to declare my interest.

The Minister for Communications and Information (Dr Yeo Ning Hong): Sir, as part of Government's policy to liberalize the taxi industry, my Ministry will now allow taxis to carry paid advertisements as long as the taxis remain easily recognizable to commuters. Such advertisements, of course, should also not pose any additional hazard to other road users. ROV will be happy to receive any specific proposals from the taxi companies.
