Mr Teo Chong Tee asked the Minister for Education what stringent measures are being taken to ensure that all school tuckshop vendors observe a high standard of hygiene in their food preparation.

Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam: Mr Speaker, Sir, school principals have all along been working closely with the various district Environmental Health Offices of the Ministry of the Environment to ensure that school tuckshop vendors maintain a high standard of hygiene in their food preparation. Stallholders and their assistants must be medically examined and cleared before they are allowed to handle food and drinks. Public health inspectors as well as school principals or their designated staff conduct regular checks on tuckshops and stallholders to ensure that they comply with the regulations laid down by the Ministry of the Environment.
