Mr Lau Ping Sum asked the Minister for Education if he will consider providing a centre for TL2 in one of the secondary schools in Ang Mo Kio Housing Estate.
The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education (Mr Tang Guan Seng) (for the Minister for Education): Mr Speaker, Sir, I am answering on behalf of my Minister.
There is, at present, a TL2 centre located at Yishun Secondary School. This centre serves pupils in the Yishun and Ang Mo Kio areas and is accessible to pupils living in Ang Mo Kio through convenient bus and MRT routes.
The Ministry is of the view that there is no necessity to establish a TL2 centre in Ang Mo Kio at the present time. The Ministry will, however, monitor the situation and establish a TL2 centre in Ang Mo Kio if the need arises.
Mr Lau Ping Sum (Yio Chu Kang): Sir, could the Parliamentary Secretary inform the House on the number of students in Ang Mo Kio who are affected by this?
Mr Tang Guan Seng: Mr Speaker, Sir, I do not have the exact figures with me now but there are two schools in Ang Mo Kio which offer TL2 teaching. One is Deyi Secondary School and the other is Bo Wen Secondary School.
