Mr Teo Chong Tee asked the Minister for National Development what is the development plan for Pulau Ubin.
The Minister of State for National Development (Mr Peter Sung) (for the Minister for National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, I am answering on behalf of my Minister.
Under the Concept Plan, which is the long term land use and transportation plan for Singapore, Pulau Ubin will be safeguarded as a contingency land reserve for urban development. This is for the long term. For now, we are looking at suitable interim uses for Pulau Ubin. Such uses are likely to be for outdoor, rugged sports involving the expansion of the facilities within the Outward Bound School, campsites, recreational uses, prawn farming and other aquacultural activities and granite quarrying.
Mr Teo Chong Tee (Changi): Sir, in the light of what the Minister of State has reported on the land uses for Pulau Ubin, may I ask the Minister whether or not the land uses in the future would involve a mass resettlement of the islanders?
Mr Peter Sung: Mr Speaker, Sir, for these interim uses that we are planning or looking into, no mass resettlement of the islanders is envisaged.
