The following question stood in the name of Mr Chiam See Tong -
Mr Chiam See Tong: To ask the Minister for Home Affairs whether he will provide the services of Commissioners for Oaths to the public at the Immigration Department and other departments of his Ministry where such services are required.
Dr Lee Siew-Choh: Question No. 9, Sir.
Prof. Jayakumar: Mr Speaker, Sir, there are Commissioners for Oaths at the Ministry of Home Affairs' departments, particularly the National Registration Department, where this will be of assistance to members of the public making various applications, particularly applications for citizenship. We periodically review the requirement for counter services, including the requirement for oaths administrations. As a result of such a review, additional Commissioners for Oaths will also be available at the Immigration Department. Therefore, there will be enough Commissioners for Oaths serving the public in our departments but, if need be, more will be appointed.
