Mr Heng Chiang Meng asked the Minister for National Development (a) when will the PWD-proposed pedestrian crossing across Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3, serving residents of Serangoon North Neighbourhood 5, be ready; and (b) whether there are plans to eventually replace the pedestrian crossing with an overhead bridge and, if so, when.
Mr Peter Sung (for the Minister for National Development): Sir, I am answering on behalf of my Minister.
The Public Works Department (PWD) will build a temporary signalised pedestrian crossing across Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3. This will be done by early September 1991. In the longer term, PWD intends to build an overhead bridge. The construction of this overhead bridge will be done in conjunction with a flyover which the PWD will build across Yio Chu Kang Road at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3. We expect the construction of the overhead bridge to start at the end of 1992 and to be completed in the middle of 1993.
