PROF S JAYAKUMAR Minister for Law

The 1990 Revised Edition of Subsidiary Legislation of the Republic of Singapore will be published in 1992. This will be useful to both legal practitioners and the lay public.

  1. The Ministry will expand LawNet to give lawyers easy access to all electronic legal services. When fully implemented in 5 years' time, lawyers can perform many legal transactions from the computers in their offices.

  2. To upgrade the standard of prosecution work, lay Public Prosecutors are being replaced by professional Deputy Public Prosecutors in the Subordinate Courts.

  3. The Ministry will continue the following major computerisation projects:

a. The Singapore Land Data Hub allows the sharing of commonly required land-related data, both graphic and textual. 12 public agencies are contributing their digital land data to the HUB. The project will be completed in 1994, and will enable users to manage and share land-related data more efficiently.

b. The Registry of Titles & Deeds is computerising the land titles registration system under the Land Titles Act, so that title searches can be done by computer. The first phase of the Singapore Titles Automated Registration System (STARS) will be operational by end 1994.

c. The Registry of Trade Marks and Patents is computerising all aspects of trade marks registration. This will speed up trade marks registration when fully completed in 5 years' time.
