Encik Othman bin Haron Eusofe asked the Minister for National Development if he will provide details of the Housing and Development Board's programme to develop new sale flats in the Marine Parade GRC.
Dr Richard Hu Tsu Tau: Over the next five years, HDB plans to complete construction of 326 flats for sale in Marine Parade GRC.
Work has started on 50 4-room Model A flats, and 76 5-room Improved flats, at Circuit Road. These flats were put up for booking in the second quarter of 1992, and will be completed by end 1994. Work on another 200 flats at Pipit Road is expected to commence in early 1995, and be completed in late 1997.
Mr Chia Shi Teck asked the Minister for Labour whether he will reduce the foreign worker levy in view of the weak economic condition currently prevailing in Singapore.
Dr Lee Boon Yang: The foreign worker levy is a pricing mechanism to regulate the demand for foreign workers. In the past 12 months, the demand for foreign workers is still strong. The number has increased by about 10% despite slower economic growth. There is therefore no plan to reduce the foreign worker levy.
