The Minister for Finance (Dr Richard Hu Tsu Tau): Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move the Motion* standing in my name under item No. 6 in the Order Paper.
*The Motion reads as follows:
That this Parliament, pursuant to section 7 of the Civil List and Pension Act (Chapter 44) resolves that the Schedule to that Act be varied by deleting the figures "$51,000", "$2,013,200", "$393,000" and "$55,700" in the second column and substituting the figures "$53,000", "$2,249,900", "$411,300" and "$146,600", respectively.
Sir, it is proposed to increase the provisions for the entertainment allowance and salaries of personal staff to $53,000 and $2,249,900 respectively. These increases for FY 93 are necessary to provide for anticipated higher entertainment expenditure and increases in staff remuneration.
A higher sum of $411,300 is required to meet Expenses of the Istana household in FY 93. The increase is to cater for higher expenditure on public utilities.
The allocation for Special Services in FY 93 is increased from $55,700 to $146,600. The higher expenditure in FY 93 is for the replacement of a car and other machinery and equipment which are beyond economic repair.
It is, therefore, necessary to vary the provisions in the Schedule to the Civil List as indicated in the Motion before the House.
Question put, and agreed to.
