Mr Cheo Chai Chen asked the Minister for Education how many children have been registered for admission to Primary 1 in Northland Primary School for 1994 and what percentage of them are residents of Nee Soon Central.

The Minister of State for Education (Dr Ker Sin Tze) (for the Minister for Education): Mr Deputy Speaker, Sir, Northland Primary School registered 420 children for admission to Primary 1 in 1994. 287 or 68% of them are residents of Nee Soon Central.

Mr Cheo Chai Chen (Nee Soon Central): Sir, can the Ministry increase the number of vacancies for the residents of Nee Soon Central?

Dr Ker Sin Tze: Like all schools, there is a set of guidelines for all applicants who apply for admission. For Nee Soon Central, the percentage is already 68.3% which is a fairly high percentage. If more residents of Nee Soon Central meet the criteria, then they will be admitted.
