Dr Kanwaljit Soin asked the Acting Minister for Community Development (a) what is the number of single-parent low-income families and (b) what is the gender breakdown by head of household.

Mr Abdullah Tarmugi: As at June 1990, there were 17,914 single parent families of which 4,197 were headed by males and 13,717 by females.
