The following Question stood in the name of Mr R. Sinnakaruppan -

Mr R. Sinnakaruppan: To ask the Minister for Education what is the rationale for making all school children attend school during the period between the end of the final-year examinations and the issuing of report cards.

Mr Lee Yock Suan: Mr Speaker, Sir, the school year does not end with the final examinations. The time between the end of the examinations and the issue of report books is used to conduct a variety of activities which could include a review of the examinations, enrichment activities such as excursions, and programmes which prepare pupils for the next stage of their education. These activities form an integral part of the educational package which our schools provide for their pupils.
