Mr Chia Shi Teck asked the Acting Minister for Community Development what are his Ministry's plans to develop the swimming lagoon at East Coast Park and whether he will consider converting the area into a public park.
Mr Abdullah Tarmugi: The East Coast Park Swimming Lagoon site has been leased to a private company since April 1992. One of the conditions of the lease is that the site be developed into a recreation park. Since then, the company has been discussing its plans with the relevant authorities. The process is still going on and the company hopes to start construction work soon. As long as the lease is in force, the nature of the development will have to comply with the conditions therein.
