Assoc. Prof. Chin Tet Yung asked the Minister for Health what health services can the residents in the northern parts of Singapore, eg, Sembawang, Marsiling and Woodlands, expect to be provided with in the near future.

Mr Yeo Cheow Tong: Residents in Woodlands and Marsiling are served by Woodlands Polyclinic which was opened in 1993. Woodlands Polyclinic provides a comprehensive range of services, including maternal and child health care, immunisation, outpatient care for acute and chronic medical conditions, clinical laboratory services, a minor operating theatre, an X-ray Centre and a dental clinic. There is also a Senior Citizens Health Care Centre. The polyclinic has a daily patient attendance of 700 patients. GPs in the neighbourhood can also make use of the laboratory and X-ray facilities for their patients.

Residents in the Sembawang and Yishun areas will be served by the Yishun Polyclinic which is scheduled to open in October this year. Yishun Polyclinic will have all the services and facilities of a large Government polyclinic, including laboratory and X-ray services.
