Assoc. Prof. Chin Tet Yung asked the Minister for Communications when can residents in Woodlands expect to see covered linkways between the bus stops and the nearest blocks.

Mr Mah Bow Tan: Under LTA's programme to upgrade bus shelters and provide more commuter facilities, more than 4,000 bus shelters will be upgraded in phases. The first phase of the programme is currently in progress and involves the upgrading of about 800 bus shelters and constructing more than 100 linkways in older HDB estates.

The bus shelters selected in the first phase are generally more than 9 years old and mainly in the older estates. Woodlands is being considered for the second phase. Construction is scheduled to commence in late 1999.
