The Leader of the House (Mr Wong Kan Seng): Mr Speaker, Sir, we have finally come to the end of a very long sitting. On behalf of the Members here, I would like to thank you and your Deputy for chairing this session and for your patience in seeing through these nine days of debate.

On this note, I beg to move,

That Parliament do now adjourn to a date to be fixed.

Mr Speaker: Before I put the question, may I just thank the Leader for his complimentary remarks and I would like to thank hon. Members for the cooperation that they have extended to me and my Deputy over the past two weeks. I assure you that my Deputy and I have enjoyed listening to your excellent speeches, certainly with great pleasure. True to your role as representatives of the people, you have discharged your duties in a responsible and faithful way and you have raised many interesting topics in the House, certainly many stimulating matters, and this time around, even topics of a "hair raising" nature.

Some of you have had the indignity of the "guillotine" exercised on you. But I think it is important to remind ourselves that the "guillotine" is a necessary tool in order to allow us to carry out the business of the House in an efficient and expedient manner. Nevertheless, I assure you that we will endeavour to ensure that, in future, there will be less occasion for us to have to exercise the "guillotine". On that note, once again, I thank you for your kind cooperation. [Applause.]
