Mr Shriniwas Rai asked the Minister for Finance if Singapore Airlines had consulted Air New Zealand before making the bid for Ansett Australia.

Dr Richard Hu Tsu Tau: SIA's decision to acquire a 50% stake in Ansett from News Limited is made based on commercial considerations. Whether SIA had consulted ANZ before making the bid for Ansett is also a business issue. While the Government may be a major shareholder of SIA, it is the policy of the Government to leave commercial decisions to the company.
