MEDIA COMMENTARIES

Mr Noris Ong Chin Guan asked the Minister for Information and the Arts whether his Ministry is responsible for and exercises its influence on the subject and content of reports by local media companies, including media commentaries on the developments and personalities of foreign countries.

Mr Lee Yock Suan: Local media companies publish and broadcast reports as they see fit. They are responsible for their editorial policies. If the Government does not agree with certain reports or when there are factual errors, the relevant Ministry may write in to the media to correct the reports or to dissociate the Government from certain points of view.
