The following Question stood in the name of Mr Tay Beng Chuan -
Mr Tay Beng Chuan: To ask the Deputy Prime Minister if the Government will consider a more moderate across-the-board increase in the salary revision for civil servants, in order not to drive up our overall wage cost too fast and cause a runaway increase in prices and charges which will cause more hardship to the low-income group and make our businesses even less competitive, compared with other countries.
Mr Zulkifli Bin Baharudin: Question No. 21, Sir.
The Deputy Prime Minister (BG Lee Hsien Loong): Mr Speaker, Sir, the Government announced revisions to Civil Service salaries yesterday. These revisions were to enable civil servants to be paid competitive wages. Parliament is debating the issue and I will respond to this and other comments by MPs in my winding up reply.
