CIVIL LIST (Motion)

The Minister for Finance (Dr Richard Hu Tsu Tau): Mr Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to move,

That this Parliament, pursuant to section 7 of the Civil List and Pension Act (Chapter 44), resolves that the Schedule to that Act be varied by deleting the figure "$1,757,700", in the second column and substituting the figure "$2,232,000".

Sir, I propose that an additional provision of $474,300 be supported for the Privy Purse under Class I expenditure. This represents 27% over the Privy Purse's budgeted FY2000 provision of $1,757,700. The additional provision is to meet the increase in expenditure due to the salary revisions announced in the financial year 2000. As such, the FY2000 revised estimate for the Privy Purse is $2,232,000.

It is therefore necessary to vary the Privy Purse amount in the Schedule to the Civil List and the Pension Act (Chapter 44), as indicated in the Motion before the House.

Question put, and agreed to.

Resolved,

That this Parliament, pursuant to section 7 of the Civil List and Pension Act (Chapter 44), resolves that the Schedule to that Act be varied by deleting the figure "$1,757,700", in the second column and substituting the figure "$2,232,000".
