PRIMARY SIX AND SECONDARY FOUR STUDENTS

Dr Amy Khor Lean Suan asked the Acting Minister for Education what is the number and percentage of (i) Primary 6 students in the GEP, EM1, EM2 and EM3 classes in each of the last three years (2001, 2002 and 2003); and (ii) secondary 4 students in the GEP, Normal (Technical), Normal (Academic) and Express Streams in each of the same three years.

Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam: In the last three years, the percentage of Primary 6 pupils in EM1, EM2 and EM3 was about 18%, 70% and 12% respectively. (See details below.)

At Secondary 4, an average of 9% of the pupils were in Special course, 51% in Express, 25% in Normal (Academic) (N(A)) and 14% in Normal (Technical) (N(T)). (See table below).
