7.
Mr Steve Chia Kiah Hong asked the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports if his Ministry will consider helping youths in the community interested in motorcross racing, to set up a safe motorcross racing track in Singapore so that they will not risk their lives by going to the poorly maintained and unsafe motorcross racing tracks in our neighbouring countries.
Dr Vivian Balakrishnan: The Singapore Motor Sports Association (SMSA) is currently exploring the possibility of developing a vacant plot of State Land in Tuas into a motorcross site.
The site can serve both as a venue for races, and as a training ground for riders. It will have sufficient space to house a mobile medical centre and spectator stands on race days.
The Singapore Sports Council, the Singapore Land Authority (SLA), and the Urban Redevelopment Authority are in discussion with SMSA on the possible use of the Tuas site. SLA is currently carrying out consultations, with a view towards obtaining technical clearances for the site. Only when all relevant agencies have given the go-ahead, will

formal approval for the use of the site be given. Besides regulatory approval, SMSA will also have to consider whether it has enough financial resources to proceed with the project. Meanwhile, I urge all motorcross enthusiasts to exercise caution and observe safety practices in the pursuit of their sport.
