EXECUTION

**

(Change of method): **

4.

Prof. Ivan Png Paak Liang asked the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs if he will change the method of execution from hanging to lethal injection.

Mr Wong Kan Seng: The method of execution in Singapore is specified in law under the Criminal Procedure Code (Cap 68), section 216, which stipulates that "when any person is sentenced to death, the sentence shall direct that he shall be hanged by the neck till he is dead".

We had previously studied the different methods of execution and found no reason to change from the current method used, ie, by hanging.
