CLARIFICATION BY THE DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER AND MINISTER FOR HOME AFFAIRS:
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs (Mr Wong Kan Seng): Sir, I just want to make one clarification. During the Parliamentary sitting on 14th February, when Assoc. Prof. Ong Soh Khim asked for my response to her proposal to exclude foreign workers who are working as maids in our households, I said that, "if these foreign maids think that they want to spend $100 going there and lose another $300, let them decide."
I would like to correct the first part of my reply regarding the foreign maids having to "spend $100 going there". I have issued a clarification to the media about this on 14th February evening.
Sir, under the Casino Control Act, the entry levy requirement applies only to Singapore citizens and Permanent Residents. In fact, I have made this point a couple of times in my speech during the Second Reading of the Casino Control Bill.
