Mrs Lina Chiam asked the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs (a) from 2009 to 2011, how many suicides were committed by foreigners and Singaporeans in Singapore; and (b) what are the probable causes of suicides among the foreigners.

Mr Teo Chee Hean: Based on the suicide data compiled by MHA, there were 401 suicides in 2009 and 353 suicides in 2010. Foreigners accounted for 52 and 57 suicides respectively. We do not know the exact reasons why these foreigners choose to commit suicide.
