Mr M. P. D. Nair asked the Minister for Communications and Works if he will state the Government's policy on Nationalisation of Singapore's Road Transport, with particular reference to the Singapore Traction Company whose Charter expires in June 1955.

Mr Francis Thomas: Since the hon. Member's question about the nationalisation of road transport was put, the subject has been debated in the Assembly, and it has been decided that a Commission should be appointed to examine the public passenger transport system and to make recommendations. In that debate I informed the Assembly that it was the intention of the Government to nationalise passenger transport. The decisions on how and when this would be done would be taken in the light of the recommendations of the Transport Commission.
