Mr William Tan asked the Chief Secretary whether the Government will take early steps to promote and operate television in the same way as broadcasting is by Radio Malaya of Singapore; or whether the Government will allow private enterprise to establish such a service.
Mr A. A. Williams: Government is not at present prepared to spend public money on the operation of a television service, in view of the heavy financial commitments required on social services.
Government is prepared to consider any proposition put forward regarding the establishment of a television service by private enterprise.
