Mr John Ede asked the Minister for Education whether the Government school building programme of 23 primary schools and one secondary school due for completion in 1955 is up to schedule.
Mr Chew Swee Kee: The school building programme referred to was a forecast by the Public Works Department in April of the number of schools to be completed this year. This was one secondary school and 23 primary schools. The secondary school and 11 primary schools have been completed. One more primary school will be ready in December. The remaining primary schools are expected to be completed as follows: two in January; three in February; two in March; and four in April. But every effort is being made to speed up this delayed programme.
