Clause 9-

The Chairman: Mr Minister, the last few lines of clause 9 read:

"... shall be liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or to a fine not exceeding five thousand dollars or to both such fine and imprisonment."

I was wondering whether you would prefer those words, "fine" and "imprisonment", transposed.

Mr J. M. Jumabhoy indicated assent.

The Chairman: That will be done when the Bill is reprinted.

Clause 24-

Mr J. M. Jumabhoy: Sir, I move,

In page 13, line 33: to leave out "holding or who has held high judicial office" and insert "qualified to be appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of the Colony or of the Federation of Malaya under the law for the time being in force in the Colony or in the Federation of Malaya, as the case may be,".

The reason, Sir, is that it is possible we may find it difficult to get a person who does hold or has held high judicial office to be the chairman.

Amendment agreed to.
