Mr R. Jumabhoy asked the Chief Secretary, in view of the special press release issued by the Information Service of India on the 23rd November, 1957, wherein it was stated that the Government of India had given an assurance that reciprocal facilities will be granted to Singapore citizens to acquire Indian citizenship, whether it is intended to direct that subsection (1) of section 8 of the Singapore Citizenship Ordinance 1957 should apply to a citizen of the Republic of India.

Mr S. T. Stewart: Sir, the answer is yes. The Hon. the Chief Minister will be making a statement in the Assembly today.
