[Mr SPEAKER in the Chair]
Resumption of debate on Question, "That the Bill be now read a Second time."
Question again proposed.
Mr Byrne: Mr Speaker, Sir, under Standing Order No. 24 (1) I move,
That this debate be now adjourned.
Mr Speaker, Sir, I agree with the Member for Farrer Park
An hon. Member: Hear, hear!
Mr Byrne: - that this Bill appears to be defective on its face, as it purports to continue in force an Ordinance which has already lapsed and would thereby render persons liable to punishment for acts which were not offences after 15th February, 1961. Mr Speaker, Sir, there are powers for the Government to deal with such offences under the Penal Code until such time as other provisions are made for dealing with these particular offences.
Question put, and agreed to.
Resolved, That this debate be now adjourned.
Mr Speaker: Resumption of debate, what day?
Dr Lee Siew Choh: 24th May, 1961.
