Legislative Assembly of Singapore · 20 November 1961 · 2nd Legislative Assembly

Official Report, 20 November 1961, Vol 15, Issue 4 · Open in the reader (summaries, search, filters)

The Prime Minister (Mr Lee Kuan Yew): Mr Deputy Speaker, Sir, I formally move the motion* standing in my name.

*The motion reads as follows:-

That this Assembly, pursuant to section 36 of the Singapore (Consitution) Order in Council, 1958, resolves that the salary of the Speaker with effect from 1st September, 1961, shall be $3000 a month.

That this Assembly, pursuant to section 36 of the Singapore (Constitution) Order in Council, 1958, resolves that the salary of the Speaker with effect from 1st September, 1961, shall be $3,000 a month.

The House will remember that when we moved a motion fixing the remuneration of the Speaker after he was reelected to this Assembly, I indicated that adjustments had been made in order to take into account the loss of variable allowances for the rest of the civil service. These variable allowances having been restored as from the 1st of September this year, it falls upon me to move formally that the Speaker shall also, from the 1st of September, 1961, be paid his former remuneration of $3,000 per month.

Question put, and agreed to.

Resolved,

That this Assembly, pursuant to section 36 of the Singapore (Constitution) Order in Council, 1958, revolves that the salary of the Speaker with effect from 1st September, 1961, shall be $3,000 a month.
