First Offenders

Mr David Marshall asked the Minister for Home Affairs what was the number of first offenders sentenced to six months' imprisonment or less in (a) 1959; (b) 1960; and (c) the first ten months of 1961.

Mr Ong Pang Boon: The number of first offenders sentenced to six months' imprisonment or less in -

(a) 1959 was 1,021;

(b) 1960 was 1,166; and

(c) the first 10 months of 1961 was 775.
