The Prime Minister: Mr Deputy Speaker, Sir, I formally move the motion* standing in my name.
*The motion reads as follows:
That this Assembly, pursuant to subsection (I) of section 79 of the Singapore (Constitution) Order in Council, 1958, resolves that the remuneration of the Chairman and other Members of the Public Service Commission established under section 76 of the aforesaid Order shall with effect from 1st September, 1961, be as follows:-
(a) for the Chairman, an inclusive salary of $2,300 per month;
(b) for the Deputy Chairman, a retainer of $750 per month, and, in addition, $50 per day on which he attends a meeting of the Commission with a maximum of twenty days in any one month; and
(c) for other Members, a retainer of $500 per month, and, in addition, $50 per day on which they attend a meeting of the Commission with a maximum of twenty days in any one month.
For the same reasons as those that I have given in moving the motion regarding the restoration of the full remuneration of the Speaker. I formally also move that the remuneration of the Chairman, the Deputy Chairman and the retainers for members of the Public Service Commission be restored to what they were before the adjustments were made in July 1959. The adjustments mean, in effect, that the Chairman will go back to his former salary of $2,300 per month, the Deputy Chairman a retainer of $750 per month and $50 per meeting with a maximum of 20 days in any one such month.
Mr Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to move.
Question put, and agreed to.

September, 1961, be as follows:-
(a) for the Chairman, an inclusive salary of $2,300 per month;
(b) for the Deputy Chairman, a retainer of $750 per month, and, in addition, $50 per day on which he attends a meeting of the Commission with a maximum of twenty days in any one month; and
