Inche Rahamat Bin Kenap asked the Minister for National Development whether applications from the Malay community for Housing Board flats in Geylang Serai will be given preference.
Mr Ho Cheng Choon: The Government has already reserved one block of 83 flats for sale to the newly formed Sharikat Berkerjasama2 Perumahan Kebangsaan Singapura dengan Tanggongan Berhad. This Society will allocate the flats to eligible Malays who wish to purchase the flats for their own occupation.
It is the objective of the Government in this plural society to get the people to mix as much as possible, and since one block has already been reserved exclusively for Malays, no further preference will be given to them in allocation of Geylang Serai flats.
