The Minister for Law (Mr E. W. Barker): Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move,
That this Assembly in accordance with section 4 of the Foreshores Ordinance (Chapter 246) approves the reclamation by Government of that portion of the foreshore and sea-bed containing an area of approximately 41 acres at South Quay as delineated on the plan, marked "LAND OFFICE RECLAMATION PLAN NO. 1/65", which is deposited in the Land Office, Singapore, and further approves the construction of a wharf deck on steel piles in that portion of sea-bed at East Lagoon which is coloured red in the same plan and containing an area of approximately 12 acres.
Mr Speaker, Sir, on the 28th of November, 1963, the Legislative Assembly approved the reclamation by Government of approximately 19 acres of foreshore and sea-bed at South Quay for the purpose of extending the East Lagoon to provide four additional berths together with ancillary equipment and buildings, such as godowns for the Singapore Harbour Board.
The expansion programme of the Port of Singapore Authority calls for further reclamation of South Quay. The Government proposes, therefore, to reclaim another 41 acres as shown on LAND OFFICE RECLAMATION PLAN NO. 1/65, a copy of which is in the Assembly Library for the information of Members.
The reclamation will be carried out by the Port Authority on behalf of the Government. The reclaimed land will be used for the construction of godowns, other buildings and a wharf deck. The Authority also proposes to build another wharf deck in the 12 acres of sea-bed referred to in the second half of the motion.
Mr Speaker, Sir, I beg to move.
Question put, and agreed to.
Resolved,
That this Assembly in accordance with section 4 of the Foreshores Ordinance (Chapter 246) approves the reclamation by Government of that portion of the foreshore and sea-bed containing an area of approximately 41 acres at South Quay as delineated on the plan, marked "LAND OFFICE RECLAMATION PLAN NC). 1/65", which is deposited in the Land Office, Singapore, and further approves the construction of a wharf deck on steel piles in that portion of sea-bed at East Lagoon which is coloured red in the same plan and containing an area of approximately 12 acres.
