Official Report, 13 December 1965, Vol 24, Issue 2 · Open in the reader (summaries, search, filters)
Dr Toh Chin Chye: Mr Speaker, I beg to move,
That, pursuant to Article 25 of the Constitution of the State of Singapore, the salary of the Speaker with effect from the 8th December, 1965, shall be $3,000 a month.
I would like to inform the House that the Speaker has given up his legal practice and is now a full-time Speaker in the Parliament of the independent State of Singapore. We have previously indicated that when the Speaker assumes a full-time role in the House, he would be paid a full-time salary for the duties performed. I therefore accordingly move this motion.
Question put, and agreed to.
Resolved,
That, pursuant to Article 25 of the Constitution of the State of Singapore, the salary of the Speaker with effect from the 8th December, 1965, shall be $3,000 a month.
