Mr Lim Soo Peng asked the Minister for Law and National Development, in view of the heavy vehicular traffic along New Bridge Road, especially in that sector between Canal Road and Merchant Road, whether he will consider erecting an overhead bridge for the safety and convenience of pedestrians, and also for the smooth flow of vehicular traffic.

Mr Ho Cheng Choon (for the Minister for Law and National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, the Public Works Department has plans to erect overhead pedestrian bridges along New Bridge Road. Two sites have already been selected: one is in front of Hong Lim Park and the other near the People's Park. Work is expected to begin in January next year.
