Mr Ho Kah Leong asked the Minister for Defence if he will consider strengthening the Police force in Jurong Town in view of the increasing number of criminal activities there.

Mr Lim Kim San: Mr Speaker, Sir, the Jurong Town area is served by a Police sub-station at Taman Jurong. In addition, troops from the Reserve Unit patrol the area each night from 10 p.m, till 6 a.m, the following day. Criminal activities in the area have increased with the increasing population, and proposals to increase the police manpower to provide adequate security for the Taman Jurong area have been submitted in the estimate proposals for 1971-72. In the meantime, the Police force in the area has been directed to be even more vigilant in the performance of their duties.

Mr Ho Kah Leong (Jurong): (In Mandarin): Is the Minister prepared to set up a police station in Jurong Town?

Mr Lim Kim San: Mr Speaker, Sir, there is no necessity yet, but we will start first by providing more police personnel for the substation at Taman Jurong. Later on, when Jurong further develops, there might be a case for another police station there, but at the moment there is no proposal to build a large police station in Jurong.
