Mr P. Govindaswamy asked the Minister for Culture when the National Library will be entirely air-conditioned.
The Minister for Culture (Mr Jek Yeun Thong): Mr Speaker, Sir, the National Library will he entirely air-conditioned when funds are made available. It is estimated that it will require about $90,000 to air-condition the remaining part of the building which is at present not air-conditioned. It is considered that at present there are more urgent library projects for which funds are needed, such as the provision of full-time branch libraries in satellite towns and the extension of the National Library's Southeast Asian Room and library stacks.
Mr P. Govindaswamy (Anson): My question is, when will the National Library be entirely air-conditioned? I want to know the date. I am not worried about the funds.
Mr Jek Yeun Thong: The date is when we have the money!
