Dr Augustine H. H. Tan asked the Minister for Law and National Development if it is planned to build a recreational park on the land along the canal between St. Michael's Estate and Jalan Toa Payoh.
Mr E. W. Barker: Sir, I regret to say that there are no plans to build a recreational park on the land along the canal between St. Michael's Estate and Jalan Toa Payoh. The reason is that most of this land is a reserve for drainage. In fact, part of the land is being used as an access to the canal in order that the dredging of silt and clearing of rubbish from the canal can be carried out. A larger part of the remaining land is, in fact, earmarked for future widening of the canal.
