Mr Ivan Baptist asked the Minister for National Development and Communications what action is being planned to ease traffic congestion at Woodsville where six major roads meet, viz. Upper Serangoon Road, Jalan Kolam Ayer, Serangoon Road, MacPherson Road, Jalan Toa Payoh and Bendemeer Road, causing unnecessary hardship and danger for the people of Potong Pasir, especially those living in Sennett Estate, Jalan Potong Pasir, Lorong Ahadiat and Meyappa Chettiar Road.

Mr Lim Kim San: There are plans to upgrade Paya Lebar Way, Jalan Kolam Ayer and Jalan Toa Payoh to expressway standards to form part of the Pan-Island Expressway. For the major road intersection at Woodsville, a flyover is planned to link Jalan Kolam Ayer with Jalan Toa Payoh for non-stop traffic across the intersection. Improvements to the ground system are also included in the plans for Woodsville.

The proposals will commence as soon as approval for fund is obtained from the Ministry of Finance. When completed, the proposals will relieve traffic congestion and reduce hazard to pedestrians at Woodsville.
