Mr Yeo Toon Chia asked the Minister for Communications and Acting Minister for Culture when the bus terminus at Ang Mo Kio New Town will be completed and what is the number of bus services to be provided; and, in view of the increasing population in Ang Mo Kio, whether he has any immediate plan to improve the existing bus services.

The Minister for Communications and Acting Minister for Culture (Mr Ong Teng Cheong): Mr Speaker, Sir, the new bus terminus at Ang Mo Kio town centre was completed in April this year.

At present there are 14 bus services in Ang Mo Kio, of which seven operate from the new terminus. The remaining seven services which are now operating from a temporary terminus at Avenue 6 will be shifted to the new terminus before the end of this year.

Next month, SBS will introduce two more services in Ang Mo Kio; one to Bedok and the other to the New Bridge Road Corridor. Four more buses will also be added to the existing services to meet the increasing demand.
