Mr Teo Chong Tee asked the Minister for National Development (a) whether the uncompleted factory building fronting Blocks 74 and 78 at the junction of Bedok North Road and New Upper Changi Road will be demolished as it is an eye-sore and a breeding ground for mosquitoes and when; and (b) what plans the Housing and Development Board has for the site.
Mr Teh Cheang Wan: Sir, the factory building was formerly used for the construction of prefabricated HDB flats. It was bought over by HDB when the contractor failed. The building will be dismantled and transferred to a new site at Tampines by the end of 1981 to be used by a new contractor for prefabricated flats.
The present site is earmarked for the construction of a school.
