Mr Ch'ng Jit Koon asked the Minister for National Development whether he will increase the quantum of compensation payable in resettlement cases as the amount of compensation presently paid does not correspond to the price rise of the Housing and Development Board flats and, if so. when.
Mr Lee Yock Suan (for the Minister for National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, it is Government policy to review periodically the rates for resettlement compensation. There have been two reviews in the last three years. In March 1979, compensation rates were increased by an average of 20%. In March 1981, there was a further increase of 30% in compensation rates.
The next review of rates will be undertaken by the Housing and Development Board in the first half of 1982.
