Mr J.B. Jeyaretnam asked the Minister for Trade and Industry if there is any reason why the accounts of the Public Utilities Board are not audited by the Auditor-General as in the case of the accounts of the Housing and Development Board.
Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam: Part of the Public Utilities Board's development expenditure is financed through loans from the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. These financial institutions require that the Board's accounts be audited by commercial auditors acceptable to them. The Auditor-General has been consulted and has raised no objections to the PUB appointment of its auditors. PUB ELECTRICITY TARIFF SYSTEM (Cols. 79 - 90)
