ANG MO KIO AVENUE 1 (Development of vacant land)

Mr Yeo Toon Chia asked the Minister for National Development if he will consider landscaping the strip of vacant land along one side of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 into a park to create a better environment for the residents of Ang Mo Kio New Town, and, if not, what plans does his Ministry have to develop the land.

Mr Lee Yock Suan (for the Minister for National Development): Mr Speaker, Sir, the strip of land adjoining Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 is about 150 hectares in area. Part of the land is earmarked for a park. The site is under clearance and the Parks and Recreation Department is currently working on the design of the park. Development is scheduled to commence in late 1984 and the park will be ready in early 1987.
