CENTRAL EXPRESSWAY (Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1/Yio Chu Kang Road Link)

Dr Lau Teik Soon asked the Minister for National Development when the section of the Central Expressway linking Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 and Yio Chu Kang Road will be constructed.

The Minister for National Development (Mr Teh Cheang Wan): Mr Speaker, Sir, the PWD will be implementing the Central Expressway project from Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 to Yio Chu Kang Road in two phases. The first phase will be from Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 to Avenue 5 and the second phase from Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 to Yio Chu Kang Road.

Tenders for the first phase will be called this year and work should commence early next year. This phase of the expressway, which would include flyovers at Avenue 1 and Avenue 3, is scheduled for completion by mid-1987.

The northward extension of the Central Expressway to Yio Chu Kang Road will be undertaken in late 1985 or early 1986 and is scheduled for completion in late 1987.
