Encik Abbas Abu Amin asked the Minister for National Development if there are any plans to improve the flow of traffic along Pasir Panjang Road between Alexandra Road and South Buona Vista Road.
Mr Teh Cheang Wan: Mr Speaker, Sir, the traffic congestion along Pasir Panjang Road will be greatly relieved when the Ayer Rajah Expressway currently under construction is completed in 1986. The Expressway will provide an attractive high speed route for vehicular traffic between the City and Jurong, thus diverting traffic away from Pasir Panjang Road.
Meanwhile, the Public Works Department has also implemented several traffic management measures to improve the flow of traffic along Pasir Panjang Road between Alexandra Road and South Buona Vista Road. These include improvements to the right-turn lane near Jalan Pelepah, adjustment to the pedestrian signal crossing near Boon Leat Terrace, installation of new traffic lights outside the PSA Multi-Storey Complex. Traffic signals along this road will also be linked in the near future to provide green waves for the main traffic flow.
